Kevin Cummins

Cummins’ photographic career embarked on a wide range of work after four years of study in Salford. The burgeoning punk scene in Manchester dominated his early work. He quickly became one of the premier documentary photographers of the era. Cummins found his ideal subjects in Joy Division and The Smiths. He shot the bands publicity stills and countless features for NME, tracked their gigs and travelled the world capturing public and private moments. After the bands split in ’87 Cummins continued to scout talent; subsequently producing some of the 80’s most renowned music photography. Proud Camden has featured his collection four times in the landmark exhibitions Exemplar: Joy DivisionManchester: So Much To Answer For- The City That Shaped The Smiths, Assassinated Beauty: Photographs of the Manic Street Preachers and, most recently, New Order.
