Born in London in 1946 Gered Mankowtiz has been photographing the rock music scene for over 40 years. After leaving school at 15 and with no formal qualifications he began his photographic career, nurturing his natural ‘eye’ for photography, inspired by the actor Peter Sellers. The turning point in his career came when he was asked by The Rolling Stones manager to photograph The Stones on their infamous 1965 tour. Famous for his striking and intimate images of Jimi Hendrix, The Slade and The Rolling Stones, Mankowitz first exhibited his stunning work at Proud Galleries in 2002 and was most recently part of The Decca Years: The Rolling Stones 1962 - 1971 exhibition at Proud Chelsea in 2011.
