'Muhammed Ali at the end of the last round against Leon Spinks, New Orleans Superdome, 1978'
An award-winning photojournalist, Michael Gaffney was left disappointed in 1977 when the untimely death of Elvis Presley left him without an opportunity to ever photograph the legend. Vowing to never let this happen again, Gaffney went on a mission to photograph another legend of the time – Muhammad Ali. His determination paid off and in the year 1977-8, Ali asked Gaffney to be his personal photographer, the result was a series of intimate images depicting the boxer both in and outside the ring. Proud Galleries hosted Gaffney’s work, entitled The Champ: My Year With Muhammad Ali in 2016
