Mick and Bianca Jagger
Singer Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones sleeping alongside his wife Bianca Jagger the morning after the end of their European Tour party, Berlin, October 1973
Encouraged by his uncle, Michael Putland began shooting at age nine in hometown Harrow-on-the-Hill. Upon leaving school at sixteen he started work for a London based studio, studying under Louis Klementaski, the legendary motor racing photographer, and Walter Curtain, for Time/Life. His first private assignment on Mick Jagger for ‘Disc & Music Echo’ paved the way for Putland to photograph almost all of the biggest names in music for a vast majority of record companies, especially CBS, Warner, Atlantic and EMI. Putland formed his own photo agency ‘Retna’ while in New York, creating a branch in London upon his return in the early eighties.
