Allow Me, London 1955

Ken Russell was predominately known as a filmmaker; nicknamed “the wild man of British cinema” for his trademark flamboyant style and sometimes controversial visionary eye. In 1951, prior to his success in the industry, Russell forged a career as a photographer, photographing humorous scenes which were in stark contrast to the austere feel of post-war recovery and have come to be some of Britain's most significant records of street life during the aftermath of the Second World War.
A selection of the late Ken Russell’s works will be exhibited at Proud Chelsea in ‘Reality is a Dirty Word: Photography by Ken Russell’ from 1st December 2016 - 3rd January 2017.
