Ray Davies at a BBC recording of Top of the Pops, Lime Grove Studios, West London, Circa 1969, Andrew Maclear.

Andrew Maclear began his photography career in London, 1966. In a world of celebrity that was more relaxed than today's, without bodyguards and high security, he found himself able to photograph a plethora of famous faces. From John Lennon to Allen Ginsberg and Francoise Hardy, his portfolio encompassed an eclectic mix of notable figures in the late 1960s.

From here, he went onto a documentary filmmaking career in the U.S.A, which developed into a period spent screenwriting for TV drama. Eventually, his work came full circle, and he is once again focused on photography. People and faces remain his favourite subject matter, as they have been from the start of his career.

Maclear's collection of photographs of The Kinks will be featured in ‘The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society’ at Proud Central from the 4th October to 18th November 2018.
