Pennie Smith is one of the UK’s leading rock photographers. Her first commission covered a 1970’s Led Zeppelin tour that started the first of many collections including The Rolling Stones, The Who, U2 and most notable The Clash, among others. She first met The Clash in 1976 while shooting for NME. The favoured relationship between photographer and band led to one of the most famous photographs in rock and roll history, the cover image of The Clash’s album ‘London Calling’. Winning NME’s ‘Godlike Genius Award’ reinforced her status as the rock photographer of legends with the image even becoming a postage stamp.
