Born in 1927 in New York, Jerry Schatzberg is a world renowned photographer and film maker. After assisting Bill Helburn from 1954 to 1956, Schatzberg launched his freelance photographic career where the Sixties saw him capture intimate portraits of the generation’s most notable artists, celebrities and thinkers from Bob Dylan to Robert Rauschenberg. His images have graced the pages of Vogue, Esquire and Glamour, and many others, launching Schatzberg to a similar celebrity status as many of his subjects. His success continued in the seventies to include film, participating in the renaissance of American cinema and earning him the Golden Palm award at the Cannes film festival in 1989. Proud Galleries presented the exhibition Thin Wild Mercury: Photographs of Bob Dylan by Jerry Schatzberg in 2008.
