Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Chelsea, 1963
Presented in association with Raj Prem Fine Art Photography
Philip Townsend is known as one of the most prolific and creative photographers of the 1960s. When London was the coolest of capital cities, Townsend photographed all of the top celebrities of the day. Ranging from royals to ruffians, his most notable collections are of the aristocrats of rock and pop. Images of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones document the bands within the atmosphere of the decade. Recent discovery of his collections, after putting away his camera in 1970, has led to an ever increasing demand for his prints by magazines and newspapers throughout the world. Proud Chelsea was pleased to host Townsend’s prints in The Decca Years: The Rolling Stones 1962-1971 in 2011, uncovering the band at a turning point in their career.
